As teachers we are faced with different challenges and obstacles everyday. In the previous post I talked about students who are hard of hearing and what they may face. Therefore, teachers should be aware and trained with any assistive technology that is in the classroom. Another important detail is for a teacher to be prepared and informed.
There should be a discussion about how the device will be used with the student before it is brought into the classroom. Also, it would be a great idea to inform the students about the device. if the student will be using a hearing device, then the teacher can instruct the other students to speak clearly one at a time and loud. Another thing a teacher could do to help support students who are hard of hearing would be to face them when speaking. This helps the students hear what you are saying more clearly and can read your lips. Always to be sure use assistive listening device for audiovisual presentations and perform a listening check.
